A Guernsey eSIM lets you arrange mobile data before you travel, with no physical SIM swap and no search for a shop on arrival. Twise lists 13 plans that include Guernsey, split into three groups: Europe local eSIMs from Orange and O2 that add calls and SMS, a regional data-only eSIM for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and World eSIMs for trips that go further.
Which Guernsey eSIM should you buy?
- Maps, WhatsApp and bookings only: a data-only plan (regional 52-country or World).
- Included calls and SMS, with Europe on your route: Orange Holiday Europe 52 (20GB, 50GB or 100GB).
- Guernsey plus a UK leg with calls: O2 UK and Europe 48, but see the note on UK benefits below.
- Trip beyond Europe, or a light user: a World plan, from 1 day.
- Before buying, check that your phone supports eSIM, is carrier-unlocked, and that every country on your route is on the plan’s list.

Local eSIMs are Europe plans tied to a carrier (Orange or O2). They combine data with calls and SMS, which a data-only eSIM does not offer.
The regional data eSIM covers Europe, the Middle East and North Africa across 52 countries on a data-only basis. It fits travelers whose route stays inside that region.
World eSIMs use wider footprints (80, 88, 98, 125, 156 countries, plus 195+ for Orange Holiday World). Daily plans give a set allowance each day, and fixed plans give one allowance for the whole validity period.
Guernsey eSIM Plans With Calls and SMS
Voice and SMS are the clearest buying distinction on this page. Three products include them.
Orange Holiday Europe 52 Countries. Three 30-day tiers: 20GB, 50GB and 100GB. The outline lists 30 international call minutes and 200 SMS on the 20GB tier, and 120 minutes and 1,000 SMS on the 50GB and 100GB tiers. Calling and SMS apply under the supported-country and destination rules.
O2 UK and Europe 48 Countries. 35GB over 30 days. The outline lists 500 minutes to European numbers from supported roaming countries, plus unlimited calls and SMS to +44 UK numbers and free incoming calls while you are in the UK. A caution on the O2 benefits. The UK-specific benefits apply while you are in the UK. Guernsey is not part of the UK, so do not assume they apply while you are in Guernsey. They are most useful for the UK leg of a trip. Guernsey phone numbers also use the +44 1481 prefix, so check whether calls to Guernsey numbers count under the +44 allowance.
Orange Holiday World 195+ Countries. 20GB over 30 days with calls and SMS supported, for trips that go beyond Europe.
These are not Guernsey phone numbers. They are Europe carrier plans that include Guernsey where supported. Do not assume you will receive a Guernsey number.
Calling zones are not interchangeable. An allowance for calls within one country does not automatically apply to Guernsey numbers, UK numbers or international calls. Read the destination rules, not just the minute count. If you only call over WhatsApp or FaceTime, a data-only plan with a larger allowance usually costs less and does the same job.
Which Guernsey eSIM Should You Choose?
| Trip | Suggested starting point |
| 1–5 days, maps, messaging, bookings | World 80 or 125 daily (500MB or 1GB per day) |
| Light 15-day trip, mostly Wi-Fi | World 98, 6GB |
| Guernsey plus mainland Europe, calls matter | Orange Holiday Europe 52 |
| Guernsey plus a UK leg with calls | O2 UK and Europe 48 (for the UK portion) |
| Europe, Middle East or North Africa route, data only | Regional 52-country data eSIM |
| 7–14 days, mixed use | Fixed plan (5GB or 10GB) |
| 15–30 days, regular online use | Fixed 20GB+ or Orange Europe 50GB |
| Heavy use (video calls, uploads, hotspot) | Orange Holiday Europe 100GB or a 50GB data plan |
| Trip beyond Europe, with calls | Orange Holiday World 195+ |
Data-only or voice? Travelers who rely on WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger, Telegram, maps and booking apps often do not need traditional calls and SMS. Choose voice and SMS if you expect to call local numbers, receive text-based codes on the travel line, or deal with services that do not work through apps.
Europe or World? Europe plans suit trips that stay inside supported European destinations, and they offer the voice options and the largest allowances (up to 100GB). World plans suit trips that continue beyond Europe and a wider range of footprints, from 80 to 195+ countries.
Compare more than the country count. A plan covering more countries is not automatically better. Compare data size, validity, calling terms and whether every stop on your itinerary is on the list.
A rule from supporting travelers: buy for your heaviest day, not your average day. Arrival day usually uses the most data, because maps, bookings, transfer apps and messaging all run at once.
Guernsey Is Not the UK: What That Means for Your eSIM
Guernsey is a Crown Dependency in the Channel Islands, with its own arrangements separate from the UK and the EU. That affects how you should think about connectivity.
Do not assume UK coverage applies. A plan that covers the UK does not automatically cover Guernsey, and UK mobile plans often treat the Channel Islands differently from the UK itself. Check that Guernsey is listed on the plan’s country list, not just the UK.
UK-specific benefits may not carry over. As above, benefits tied to being in the UK, such as free incoming calls or unlimited calls to +44 numbers, may not apply in Guernsey. Read the terms before assuming.
Guernsey numbers use +44 1481. If you plan to call hotels, restaurants or taxis on the island, check whether calls to these numbers fall under your plan’s allowance. If you only use WhatsApp, this does not matter.
Getting there. Visitors typically arrive by air or by ferry, often from the UK or France. Phones on ferries usually connect to the ship’s network or to networks on either coast, and travel eSIMs generally do not cover ship networks, so plan for connectivity to behave differently on board.
Other islands. The Bailiwick of Guernsey also includes Alderney, Sark and Herm. Confirm coverage if you plan to visit them, because a small island may have different coverage from the main island.
Near coasts, check the network name. Phones near coastlines or on boats can sometimes attach to a network on another island or the French coast. If your signal behaves oddly, look at which network name your phone shows.
Local-versus-travel. Twise’s Guernsey page offers travel eSIMs, not a Guernsey local eSIM. If you need a Guernsey number, or plan to stay for months, a local provider’s SIM may fit better.
Guernsey eSIM vs Physical SIM vs International Roaming
| Feature | Twise Guernsey eSIM | Physical SIM | Home carrier roaming |
| Buy before travel | Yes, online | Often bought locally | Usually already enabled |
| Physical SIM swap | No | Usually yes | No |
| Keep home SIM active | Yes, on compatible dual-SIM phones | Device-dependent | Yes |
| Calls and SMS | Selected plans only | Plan-dependent | Carrier-dependent |
| UK, Europe or other countries | Within the plan’s list | Usually more limited | Carrier-dependent |
| Best for | Travel and multi-country connectivity | Local telecom needs | Maximum simplicity |
When a physical SIM may be better. If you need in-store support, a specific local-number arrangement or local telecom services over a longer stay, a local SIM may suit you better.
When a Twise eSIM makes more sense. It suits short-term visitors, dual-SIM users, anyone who wants digital setup before they leave, and trips that move between Guernsey, the UK, Europe or other regions.
Roaming is the simplest option because nothing needs installing. Because UK plans often treat the Channel Islands differently, check your carrier’s charges for Guernsey specifically before you rely on it.
Check Your Phone, Then Buy and Install Your Guernsey eSIM
Compatibility. You need an eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone. Recent iPhones, supported Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models, and selected other Android devices support eSIM. Check the full Twise list before buying: [LINK: Twise eSIM compatible devices page]. A compatible phone can still reject a travel eSIM if it is locked to another carrier, which commonly affects phones bought on installment plans.
Quick checks:
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM.
- Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM.
- Google Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM.
Buying and installing:
- Choose your plan. Compare Europe voice/SMS, regional data-only and World options by route, trip length, data needs and calling requirements.
- Check coverage and calling terms. Confirm that Guernsey and every onward destination are included, and review any voice/SMS restrictions.
- Check out on Twise. Payment takes place on the Twise website.
- Check your email. Twise sends the QR code or setup details after purchase.
- Install over Wi-Fi.
- Select the Twise line for mobile data and enable data roaming for it if the plan requires it.
iPhone: Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → scan the code → label the line (for example “Twise Guernsey”) → select it for mobile data when you are ready.

Dual SIM for travel. Keep your home SIM active for calls, SMS and bank verification codes, and assign mobile data to the Twise line. Turn off data roaming on the home SIM and any automatic data switching, so your phone does not quietly use home roaming.
Check the plan’s activation rules before installing, because some plans start counting validity at installation and others when they first connect.
Troubleshooting and Practical Tips for Guernsey
Wrong line selected for data. The eSIM can be installed correctly while data still runs on your home SIM. Check the mobile data setting.
Data roaming is off on the Twise line. Travel eSIMs usually connect through partner networks abroad, so the Twise line often needs data roaming enabled.
Line is off or the phone is locked. Confirm that the Twise line is switched on in SIM settings and that your phone is carrier-unlocked.
No service after landing or after a ferry. Switch airplane mode on for ten seconds or restart the phone. If the signal behaves oddly near the coast, check the network name your phone shows.
Calls or SMS not working as expected. Check that the destination is within your plan’s calling zone. Calls to Guernsey numbers may not be covered the same way as calls to UK numbers.
Practical tips:
- Install before you travel, while the setup email is easy to reach.
- Keep your home SIM for OTPs and banking messages.
- Check calling rules before using voice or SMS.
- Check that every onward destination is supported before you leave Guernsey.
- Monitor your usage, especially with video calls, uploads or hotspot.
If nothing works, contact Twise through the Help Center with your phone model, the message you see and a screenshot of your line settings.

Guernsey eSIM FAQs
Yes, if your phone supports eSIM, is carrier-unlocked, and your plan includes Guernsey. Twise’s Guernsey page lists 13 plans that cover it.
O2 UK and Europe 48 is relevant for the UK leg because of its UK-focused calling benefits. Its UK benefits may not apply while you are in Guernsey, so compare it with Orange Holiday Europe or a World plan.
Orange Holiday Europe 52 suits Europe trips that need data plus calls and SMS, and the regional 52-country plan suits data-only travel. World plans suit trips that go beyond the region.
The regional 52-country plan and the World 80, 88, 98, 125 and 156 plans are data only. Orange Holiday Europe 52, O2 UK and Europe 48 and Orange Holiday World 195+ include calls and SMS with their own rules.
