Which Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM Should You Choose?

Four types of Twise eSIM cover Bosnia and Herzegovina. The right one depends on your route, trip length and whether you need calls and SMS.

Twise eSIM Coverage Data and services Validity Best for
Europe 41 Countries Bosnia and Herzegovina + supported European countries Daily or fixed data, data-only Daily: 1–30 days. Fixed: 5–30 days Trips combining Bosnia and Herzegovina with wider Europe
Western Balkans 4 Countries Supported Western Balkans destinations Data-only Check the product page Focused regional trips
World eSIM Bosnia and Herzegovina + supported global destinations Daily or fixed data Daily: 1–30 days. Fixed: 5–30 days Multi-region travel
Orange Holiday World 195+ 195+ supported countries 200GB + 15 call minutes + 50 SMS 30 days Longer global trips with some voice and SMS

Always check the exact country list, data allowance, validity, network and call and SMS terms on the product page before checkout.

Daily plans vs fixed-data plans

A daily plan gives you a set amount of data each day for the number of days you choose (1–30 days). It suits travelers who want predictable usage. A fixed-data plan gives you one allowance to use across the validity period (5–30 days). It suits travelers whose usage varies from day to day.

Europe 41 Countries eSIM

The natural choice if Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of a wider European trip, for example a route through Croatia, Montenegro or Italy. It is data-only and comes in daily and fixed-data options, so one eSIM can cover the whole route.

Western Balkans 4 Countries eSIM

A more focused regional option for travelers whose itinerary stays within the supported Western Balkans destinations. It is data-only. Choose it when your trip stays in the region, and check the country list and validity on the product page. If you may continue to other European countries, compare it with Europe 41.

World eSIM

Choose a World eSIM if your trip continues beyond Europe, or Bosnia and Herzegovina is one stop in a multi-region itinerary. World plans come as daily or fixed-data options, from 1 to 30 days.

Orange Holiday World 195+ Countries

Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM

Orange Holiday World is different from most Twise plans because it includes voice and SMS. You get 200GB of data, 15 call minutes and 50 SMS, valid for 30 days across 195+ countries. The call minutes apply to calls within the countries covered by the plan. It suits longer trips, heavy data use, or travelers who want some calling and texting without relying on their home SIM.

Compare Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM Plans

Match the plan to your trip

Short trip, 1–5 days: A small daily plan is usually enough for maps, WhatsApp, ride-hailing, translation and light browsing.

One to two weeks: Compare daily and fixed plans. Social media, navigation, uploads and streaming use the most data. Steady users do well with daily plans, and variable users with fixed.

Up to 30 days: Choose a larger fixed-data plan or a longer daily plan for extended holidays, business trips, remote work or heavy use. For hotspot and heavy use, compare Orange Holiday World.

Bosnia and Herzegovina plus Europe: Europe 41 lets you continue to other supported European countries without buying new SIMs.

Multi-region trips: Choose a World plan when Bosnia and Herzegovina is one stop on a trip that extends beyond Europe.

Do You Need Calls and SMS?

Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM

Most travelers only need data. Maps, translation, bookings and messaging apps all run on mobile data. Still, it is worth deciding before you buy.

Data-only eSIMs
Most plans in this category are data-only. You can still message and call over the internet using apps such as WhatsApp, Viber, FaceTime, Telegram or Messenger, as long as you have a data connection. Standard calls and SMS go through your home SIM.

When Orange Holiday World may be a better fit
Choose Orange Holiday World if you need significantly more data, plus 15 call minutes and 50 SMS. Check the product page for the exact conditions.

What to expect from the Orange allowance
Fifteen call minutes and 50 SMS are a safety net, not a replacement for a local SIM. They suit occasional calls to a hotel, a driver or a booking line. If you plan regular calls or need a local number, a local SIM is the better choice.

Keep your home number with dual SIM
You can keep your normal SIM active for OTPs and incoming messages while using Twise for data. Your home carrier’s roaming charges still apply for anything that goes through the home SIM, so check your plan.

Why Use an eSIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina?

Get connected without finding a SIM shop. Buy and install before departure, instead of looking for a local SIM after you land.

Keep your home SIM for calls and OTPs. On compatible dual-SIM phones, use Twise for data and keep your normal number available for calls, SMS or verification codes.

Keep using the same eSIM across borders. Trips through the Balkans often cross several borders. Europe, Western Balkans and World plans keep working in the included destinations, so you do not need a new SIM at each crossing.

Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM vs Physical SIM vs Roaming

Feature Twise travel eSIM Local physical SIM Home carrier roaming
Buy before arrival Yes Usually purchased locally Usually already enabled
Physical SIM swap No Yes No
Setup QR code Insert card Usually automatic
Keep home SIM active Yes, on compatible dual-SIM phones Device-dependent Yes
Hotspot Supported Depends on the plan Depends on your carrier
Multi-country options Yes Usually limited Carrier-dependent
Calls and SMS Selected plans Usually available Carrier-dependent
Best for Travel data and multi-country trips Local-number needs Simple setup, possibly at higher cost

Bosnia and Herzegovina is not an EU member, so do not assume EU “roam like at home” rules apply. Roaming charges vary by carrier, so check your home plan before you rely on it.

When a local SIM may be better

A local SIM suits longer stays, or travelers who need a local number, regular local calls or domestic telecom packages.

When a Twise eSIM makes more sense

A Twise eSIM suits short-term tourists, data-first travelers, people who want connectivity ready before arrival, and anyone crossing several borders in one trip.

Check If Your Phone Supports eSIM

Check this before you buy. Twise’s terms ask customers to make sure their device is eSIM-compatible and network-unlocked.

Your phone must support eSIM. Not every smartphone does. Compatible families include recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy devices, Google Pixel phones and selected Android models. See the full Twise eSIM-compatible phones list.

check carrier compatibility for unlocked phones - Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM

Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. A phone can support eSIM and still reject another provider’s eSIM if it is locked to the original network. If you are unsure, ask your carrier. The Twise Help Center can also help 24/7.

Quick checks:

  • iPhone: Settings → Cellular/Mobile Data → look for Add eSIM
  • Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → look for Add eSIM
  • Google Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → look for Add SIM/eSIM

How to Buy and Install Your Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM

  1. Choose your plan. Compare Europe, Western Balkans and World plans by trip duration, destinations, data needs, and whether calls and SMS matter.
  2. Check out on the Twise website.
  3. Check your email. Your QR code and activation details arrive instantly at the email you gave at purchase.
  4. Install over stable Wi-Fi, before you travel.
  5. Select Twise for mobile data and turn on Data Roaming. Choose the Twise line as your data line, turn on Data Roaming for it, and turn off automatic data switching so your phone does not fall back to your home SIM.

Important: each QR code can be installed only once, and the same code cannot be used on two devices. Keep it private, and do not delete the eSIM after installing. If you remove it, you cannot reinstall it with the same code.

iPhone: Settings → Cellular/Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Scan QR Code → scan the code from your email → label the line “Twise Bosnia”. Select it for mobile data and turn on Data Roaming. If the QR code does not scan, you can enter the details manually using the SM-DP+ address and activation code.

What We See Most Often With Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIMs

Twise’s support team helps travelers with activation and connection issues every day. These are the problems that come up most often, and how to avoid them.

  1. The phone is still carrier-locked. The eSIM option exists, but installation fails or the plan does not connect. Ask your carrier to confirm your phone is unlocked before you travel.
  2. Data Roaming is off. The eSIM is installed and selected, but nothing loads. Twise travel eSIMs need Data Roaming switched on for the eSIM line. Keep it off for your home SIM to avoid roaming charges.
  3. Your home SIM is still handling data. On dual-SIM phones, check that mobile data is set to the Twise eSIM, and turn off automatic data switching. Otherwise your phone may fall back to your home carrier’s expensive roaming data.
  4. The eSIM was deleted by mistake. Because each QR code installs once, deleting the eSIM usually means you cannot add it back. Keep it on your phone, even after the trip ends.
  5. Expecting calls and SMS from a data-only plan. Most Twise plans are data-only, so verification codes and standard calls go to your home SIM. Keep it active, or move banking apps to authenticator-based verification before you leave.
  6. The phone switches to a neighboring country’s network. Many routes through the region cross several borders, and some drives pass through short stretches of other countries. For example, the road along the Adriatic coast between Croatian towns passes through Bosnia and Herzegovina near Neum. Your phone can connect to the network of a neighboring country along the way. Check that every country on your route is in your plan’s coverage list, and try manual network selection or airplane mode if the connection feels wrong.
  7. Choosing a regional plan, then extending the trip. A Western Balkans plan is a good fit for a trip inside the region. If you add Croatia, Italy or another European stop later, you may find the plan does not cover it. If your route might change, Europe 41 gives you more room.

Practical Tips for Using Your eSIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Install before you travel, over stable Wi-Fi, while your QR-code email is easy to find.
  • Keep your home SIM for OTPs. Dual SIM lets you receive verification texts on your normal number.
  • Avoid accidental home-SIM data roaming. Confirm the correct data line and turn off automatic data switching.
  • Monitor data usage on fixed-data plans, and limit large cloud backups, video uploads and streaming where possible.
  • Check coverage before crossing borders. Europe, Western Balkans and World plans have different destination lists, so verify every country on your route.
