Which Brunei eSIM Should You Choose?

Four Twise eSIM plans cover Brunei. They differ in data, validity and coverage, so the right one depends on your route, trip length and how much data you use.

Twise eSIM Coverage Data and services Validity Best for
Asia and Australia 34 Countries Brunei + supported Asia and Australia destinations 6GB, data-only 10 days Short regional itineraries
World 156 Countries Brunei + supported global destinations 1GB fixed data 3–30 days Light-use trips
World 98 Countries Brunei + supported 98-country network 6GB data 15 days Medium-data multi-country trips
Orange Holiday World 195+ Brunei + 195+ supported countries 5GB + 15 call minutes + 50 SMS 30 days Longer trips needing calls and SMS

Always check the exact country list, data allowance, validity, network and call and SMS terms on the product page before checkout.

A note on 1GB plans

The World 156 plan gives you 1GB of fixed data, and validity can run from 3 to 30 days. That does not mean 1GB lasts 30 days. Validity is the longest time you can use the data, not the amount you will get. One gigabyte suits messaging, maps, email and translation on a short trip. It will not go far for video calls, streaming, photo backups or hotspot.

Asia and Australia 34 Countries eSIM

A regional data-only option for travelers visiting Brunei together with other supported destinations in Asia and Australia. It includes 6GB of data valid for 10 days, so it suits short regional itineraries, including trips that continue beyond Brunei within the supported region.

World 156 Countries eSIM

A flexible global option for travelers whose route extends beyond Asia-Pacific. It offers 1GB of fixed data for 3 to 30 days, and suits light users moving across several countries.

World 98 Countries eSIM

A middle option with a larger allowance than the 1GB plan: 6GB of data valid for 15 days. It covers a narrower set of destinations than World 156, so check that every country on your route is included. It suits medium-data users on multi-country trips.

Orange Holiday World 195+ Countries

Orange Holiday World combines data with voice and SMS. You get 5GB of data, 15 call minutes and 50 SMS, valid for 30 days across 195+ countries. The call minutes apply to calls within the countries covered by the plan. Its advantage is not the data, since 5GB is slightly less than the 6GB plans. It is the 30-day validity and the included calls and SMS.

Match the plan to your trip

Short Brunei trip, 3–7 days: Brunei is small, and many visitors stay a few days. A World 156 plan with 1GB is enough if you mainly use maps, messaging, email, hotel apps and translation. If you also use video calls or social media, choose a 6GB plan.

Around 10 days in Brunei or Asia-Pacific: The Asia and Australia 34 plan (6GB, 10 days) fits if your route is covered and you want a larger regional allowance.

Around two weeks: The World 98 plan (6GB, 15 days) suits moderate data use across a wider set of countries.

Up to 30 days: Compare World 156 with Orange Holiday World. Choose World 156 if you need only light data, and Orange if you want calls and SMS included.

Brunei plus other countries: Choose by your whole itinerary, not Brunei alone. The 34-, 98-, 156- and 195+ country plans have different destination lists. If your trip also covers Malaysia, check it is in the plan before you buy.

Do You Need Calls and SMS With a Brunei eSIM?

brunei esim

Most travelers only need data. Maps, translation, bookings and messaging apps all run on mobile data. Still, it is worth deciding before you buy.

Data-only eSIMs
The Asia and Australia 34, World 156 and World 98 plans are data-only. You can still message and call over the internet using apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram or Messenger, as long as you have a data connection. Standard calls and SMS go through your home SIM.

When Orange Holiday World may be better
Choose Orange Holiday World if you want included call minutes and SMS alongside 5GB of data, or you need 30 days of validity. Check the product page for exact conditions.

What to expect from the Orange allowance
Fifteen call minutes and 50 SMS are a safety net, not a replacement for a local SIM. They suit occasional calls to a hotel, a driver or a booking line. If you plan regular calls or need a Bruneian number, a local SIM is the better choice.

Keep your home number with dual SIM
You can keep your normal SIM active for OTPs and incoming messages while using Twise for data. Your home carrier’s roaming charges still apply for anything that goes through the home SIM, so check your plan.

Why Use an eSIM in Brunei?

Get connected without finding a SIM shop. Buy and prepare your plan before departure, instead of looking for a physical SIM after you arrive.

Keep your main SIM for calls and OTPs. On compatible dual-SIM phones, use Twise for data and keep your normal number available for calls, SMS or verification codes.

Use one eSIM across multiple countries. Many Brunei trips are combined with other Southeast Asian or Asia-Pacific destinations. A regional or World eSIM keeps working in the included countries, so you do not need a new SIM at each stop.

When a local Brunei SIM may be better

A local SIM may suit longer stays, or travelers who need a Bruneian number, local voice service or domestic carrier packages.

When a Twise Brunei eSIM makes more sense

A Twise eSIM suits short-term visitors, travelers who want connectivity ready before arrival, dual-SIM users, and people moving between several countries.

Check If Your Phone Supports eSIM

Check this before you buy. eSIM support and carrier-unlocked status are both required.

Your phone must support eSIM. Not every smartphone does. Compatible families include recent iPhones, Samsung Galaxy devices, Google Pixel phones and selected Android models. See the full Twise eSIM-compatible phones list.

Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. A phone can support eSIM and still reject a travel eSIM if it is locked to another carrier. If you are unsure, ask your carrier. The Twise Help Center can also help 24/7.

Quick checks:

  • iPhone: Settings → Cellular/Mobile Data → look for Add eSIM
  • Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → look for Add eSIM
  • Google Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → look for Add SIM/eSIM

How to Buy and Install Your Brunei eSIM

  1. Choose your plan. Compare Asia-Pacific and World options by coverage, trip length, expected data use, and whether you need calls and SMS.
  2. Check out on the Twise website.
  3. Check your email. Your QR code and installation instructions arrive instantly.
  4. Install before departure, over reliable Wi-Fi.
  5. Select Twise for mobile data and turn on Data Roaming. Choose the Twise line as your data line, turn on Data Roaming for it, and turn off automatic data switching so your phone does not fall back to your home SIM.

Important: each QR code can be installed only once. Keep it private, and do not delete the eSIM from your phone after installing. If you remove it, you cannot reinstall it with the same code.

iPhone: Settings → Cellular/Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → scan the code from your email → label the line “Twise Brunei”. When ready, select it for mobile data and turn on Data Roaming. If the QR code does not scan, you can enter the details manually using the SM-DP+ address and activation code.

Follow the selected product’s activation rules, so you know when validity begins.

Using Hotspot With Your Brunei eSIM

Twise Brunei eSIMs support hotspot, so you can share your connection with a laptop, tablet or travel companion’s phone. This is useful for remote work and for small groups.

Hotspot uses data faster than phone use alone, because laptops update software and sync files in the background. On the 1GB plan, even light hotspot use can use up your allowance quickly. If you plan to share your connection, choose a 6GB plan and pause cloud syncing and automatic updates while connected.

What We See Most Often With Brunei eSIMs

Twise’s support team helps travelers with activation and connection issues every day. These are the problems that come up most often, and how to avoid them.

  1. The phone is still carrier-locked. The eSIM option exists, but installation fails or the plan does not connect. Ask your carrier to confirm your phone is unlocked before you travel.
  2. Data Roaming is off. The eSIM is installed and selected, but nothing loads. Twise travel eSIMs need Data Roaming switched on for the eSIM line. Keep it off for your home SIM to avoid roaming charges.
  3. Your home SIM is still handling data. On dual-SIM phones, check that mobile data is set to the Twise eSIM, and turn off automatic data switching. Otherwise your phone may fall back to your home carrier’s expensive roaming data.
  4. The eSIM was deleted by mistake. Because each QR code installs once, deleting the eSIM usually means you cannot add it back. Keep it on your phone, even after the trip ends.
  5. The 1GB runs out faster than expected. Video calls, streaming, photo backups and hotspot can use 1GB in a day or less. Turn off automatic backups and updates, and check usage in your phone’s mobile data settings.
  6. Expecting calls and SMS from a data-only plan. Most Twise plans are data-only, so verification codes and standard calls go to your home SIM. Keep it active, or move banking apps to authenticator-based verification before you leave. If you need included calls and SMS, choose Orange Holiday World.
  7. The phone switches networks near the border with Malaysia. Many Brunei trips are combined with parts of Malaysia, and near the border crossings your phone can connect to a Malaysian network. If Malaysia is not in your plan, you may lose data. Check the country list before you cross, and try manual network selection or airplane mode if the connection feels wrong.

Practical Tips for Using Your eSIM in Brunei

  • Install before you fly, over stable Wi-Fi, while your QR-code email is easy to find.
  • Keep your home SIM for OTPs. Dual SIM lets you receive verification texts on your normal number.
  • Avoid accidental home-SIM data roaming. Confirm which SIM is used for mobile data and turn off automatic switching.
  • Manage your data allowance. The 1GB plan needs more careful use than the 5GB and 6GB plans, particularly for streaming, video calls, cloud backups and social uploads.
  • Check country coverage before continuing your trip. The 34-, 98-, 156- and 195+ country plans have different destination lists, so verify each next country before you cross a border.
